The decisions that you made regarding some of the things have direct consequence in the beginning to which characters you see and who is ruling. One is to import your original character from the core game. Also, you get achievements (at least on the Xbox version) based on decisions that you do.When starting a character, you have two choices. I have been stumbling my way through it, but you can have some of your companions die straight off. I found this is less to do with your origin and more to do with what happened after the death of the archdemon. I have yet to do all of my side quests with this character. I have been playing for fifteen and a half hours and have just finished the third quest in the main story.

There was no aww that I felt in the first one except for some events that happened at the very beginning of the beginning of the game.

I didn't find the story as compelling as the first either. I went into it with the realization its just an expansion (much like Throne of Bhaal, Hordes of the Underdark). This is not a sequal to the game (much like Mass Effect 2, the Witcher 2). While it is not as long as the original, it is still long for an expansion. If you liked the original, I'm sure you will like the expansion.
